Former Minister Darshan Brar expells from Congress in Ludhiana

Punjab: Punjab Congress state president and newly appointed MP from Ludhiana Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has come into action mode.

Former minister Darshan Singh Brar, father of Kamaljit Singh Brar, who contested as an independent against Warring, was expelled by the state Congress for working against the party.

Darshan Singh Brar contested election for the first time in 1992 from Jagraon and won the election by defeating Ayodhya Prakash of BJP by 5541 votes, after which Darshan Singh Brar had a strong hold in the Congress party. After that Darshan Brar contested election in 1997 but he lost the election to Akali Dal, after which Congress gave a shock to Darshan Singh Brar in 2002 and cut his ticket, when he contested as an independent against the party, then the Congress party expelled Darshan Brar from the party.

But during this time, despite being an independent candidate, he won 30595 votes and made the Congress party lose its deposit, although he himself lost to the Akali Dal by just 1557 votes. After getting so many votes as an independent candidate, the Congress party was forced to take him back into the party, after which in 2007 he left Jagraon and contested from Bagha Purana.

Despite this, he maintained his dominance in Jagraon. He kept coming to Jagraon to share the joys and sorrows of all his workers, and this benefit was reaped by Darshan Singh Brar’s son Kamaljit Singh Brar in the Lok Sabha elections. Brar got around 42211 votes in the Lok Sabha elections.
