Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit to visit border areas for 6th time

Chandigarh: The Governor of Punjab, Banwari Lal Purohit is once again scheduled to undertake an important visit to the border areas from February 20 to February 23, 2024. This will be the sixth time he will be visiting the border areas in the last two and a half years.

During his visit, the Governor will visit the border districts of Pathankot, Gurudaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Fazilka. His itinerary also includes meetings with central agencies and state government officials to review the progress made since his previous visits and address any new issues that have arisen in recent times.

The main objective of these meetings is to enhance coordination between the Central and State agencies to remove bottlenecks, especially in the areas of border infrastructure, security, smuggling and combating the menace of drug trafficking in the border areas.

The Governor’s agenda also includes interaction with Village Defense Committees (VDCs), which have proven helpful in combating narcotics and other social evils in the border areas. The objective of these proceedings is to gather ground level information and feedback from various public representatives and press, so that various issues related to border areas can be effectively dealt with at both the Central and State Government levels.
