Indefinite strike of corporation employees in Kapurthala

Kaputhala: In Punjab, Kapurthala Corporation Employees Union has gone on an indefinite strike today over their demands. They staged a sit-in outside the corporation’s commissioner’s office and raised slogans against the administration and the Punjab government. Due to this, heaps of garbage have started piling up in the city. Due to this, the city residents are facing a dirty environment.

Union head Gopal Thapar said that since the year 2021, the demand has been raised to keep sewerage and sanitation workers. But the officials who come to the corporation from time to time postpone it by saying that the recruitment proposal will be placed in the house. At the same time, according to the corporation commissioner, the said workers will be recruited by the Selection Board on behalf of the Punjab government. He also told me that he also had a meeting with DC Kapurthala today about the garbage price. This problem will be resolved soon.

State Deputy Chief Gopal Thapar said that among their main demands, the Safai Sevaks and sewermen working on outsourcing should be made permanent. A proposal should be put in the House regarding the transfer of clerks, computer operators, fire brigades, drivers, gardeners, etc. working in the corporation to DC rates. He also expressed anger that, while there is a shortage of sanitation workers, the corporation has failed to provide a place to dump garbage for many years.

State Deputy Chief Gopal Thapar also said that the contract for lifting garbage from the city has expired for three years. The lifting work is also being done by the permanent sanitation workers of the corporation. The Municipal Corporation does not have a place of its own to dump garbage in the city. Due to this, the employees face problems dumping garbage.

At the same time, due to the strike of the corporation employees and the monsoon season, there is a danger of diseases spreading in the city due to the heaps of garbage. The union has gone on strike several times in the last three years to press for its demands. During this time, the residents of the city have been facing problems due to the piles of garbage. Now once again, the city is full of filth.
