Dispute between workers of Congress and AAP in Amritsar
There has been a dispute in the common booth of wards number 8, ,9 and 10 of Amritsar. This dispute took place between the workers of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party. The workers of both parties allege that money is being distributed to influence the voters. The police present on the spot removed the crowd.
A young man has also been injured in this dispute. He has been sent to the hospital for treatment. A case of dispute has come to light in ward 85 of Amritsar. Here the workers of Aam Aadmi Party and independent candidate Kamal Bori came face to face. AAP workers alleged that they are threatening to shoot.
Incidents of hooliganism reported in Patiala
BJP leader Jai Inder Kaur has reached Ward No. 40 of Patiala with her supporters. There was a clash here before voting in the morning. Jai Inder Kaur said that they have received a call that people from outside had come with bricks and swords. They started throwing bricks at the place where the booths were to be set up. During this, a BSF jawan and another person were injured.
There was also a ruckus in Ward No. 34 of Patiala. BJP candidate Sushil Nair tried to commit suicide by pouring petrol on himself. The police stopped him by taking immediate action. Also, the police took him with them. He alleged that some people were casting fake votes there. An ambulance has also reached the spot. BJP leader Jai Inder Kaur has also reached the spot.
SSP Nanak Singh, who reached the spot after receiving the information, said that cameras are installed at the polling booth. Whatever your allegations are, give a written complaint about it. Action will be taken.
Voting began at 7 a.m. in five municipal corporations of Punjab: Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Patiala, and Phagwara. It will continue until 4 p.m. The results too will be declared today by night.
Voting has not started yet in booth number 2 of Ward 25 of Amritsar. The machine has malfunctioned here. Voting has started late in Ward 10 Diamond Avenue due to an EVM malfunction. Elections are not being held in 7 wards of Patiala. There was rigging during the nomination here, which has resulted in elections being cancelled on the orders of the High Court.
Also, voting has started in 44 municipal councils. 1609 polling centers have been set up for voting in 368 wards of municipal corporations and 598 wards of municipal councils, which have 3809 polling booths. In the corporations where voting occurs, Congress had elected mayor in 4 and BJP in 1. However, now two mayors have left Congress and joined AAP and one has left Congress and joined BJP.
Total Voters
Municipal elections are being held in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Phagwara and Patiala. There are 37 lakh 32 thousand voters in these 5 cities. Out of which 19 lakh 55 thousand are male voters, 17 lakh 75 thousand are female voters.
Polling stations
There are 381 wards of municipal corporations and 598 wards of municipal councils/municipal panchayats. There are 3,809 polling booths in a total of 1,609 polling places. Out of these, 344 polling places have been identified as highly sensitive and 665 as sensitive. A total of 21,500 police personnel and home guard personnel will be deployed.
Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Elections
A total of 1,227 polling booths have been set up for 95 wards for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections. Out of these, about 400 polling booths are sensitive and highly sensitive. There are about 11 lakh, 65 thousand total voters here.
Amritsar Municipal Corporation Elections
A total of 841 booths have been set up by the district administration to conduct the Municipal Corporation elections. A total of 811 booths have been set up for 85 wards of the Municipal Corporation, out of which 300 have been declared sensitive and 245 have been declared highly sensitive. A total of 477 candidates are in the fray in Amritsar. There are 8.36 lakh voters in Amritsar.
Jalandhar Municipal Corporation Elections
There are a total of 6,83,367 voters in the city for the Municipal Corporation elections in Jalandhar, including 3 lakh, 54 thousand, 159 males, 3,29,188 females and 20 others. 677 polling booths have been set up for voting. 380 candidates are in the fray for the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation elections. About 2000 staff will be present to complete the voting process.
Patiala Municipal Corporation Elections
There are a total of 57 thousand, 836 voters in wards 1 to 14 in Patiala, of which 29,483 are male voters and 28, 353 are female voters. A total of 63 polling booths have been set up in 14 locations in Ward No. 15 to 29, out of which 63 polling booths have been set up in 14 locations excluding Ward No. 17. There are 39,773 male and 36,869 female voters and 5 transgender voters. There are a total of 76,647 voters. While the returning officer of ward number 30 to 45, Assistant Commissioner Richa Goyal said that there are 32 polling booths in these wards and there are a total of 39,112 voters including 20,227 male voters and 18,881 female voters and 4 transgender voters.
Phagwara Municipal Corporation Elections
The District Administration Kapurthala has completed adequate arrangements to conduct the elections of Municipal Corporation Phagwara and Nagar Panchayats Bhulath, Begowal, Nadala, and Dhilwan peacefully. 173 candidates are contesting the elections in Nagar Nagar Phagwara and similarly, 22 candidates are in the fray from Nagar Panchayat Dhilwan, 29 from Nagar Panchayat Nadala, 20 from Nagar Panchayat Bhulath and 34 from Nagar Panchayat Begowal.
