Punjab Police bust drug trafficking racket; two smugglers arrested with 10 kg of opium

Amritsar: In a major blow to cross-border drug smuggling network the Punjab Police on Monday arrested two key persons involved in the inter-state drug smuggling racket. Punjab police exposed the drug racket and also recovered 10 kg opium from the accused.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar addressed a press conference in which he said that the arrested drug smugglers have been identified as  Pishaura Singh and Arjodh Singh alias Jodha, both residents of village Boparae Madal, police station Sadar Patti, Tarn Taran.

Apart from seizing the opium, the police teams also seized his Swift car (PB04 V 1299), in which the smugglers were going to supply the opium consignment.

CP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that based on reliable information that the arrested accused had bought opium from a person in Imphal, Manipur and they were going to deliver it to someone, DCP Harpreet Mander, ADCP City-3 Abhimanyu Rana, ACP East Gurinderbir Singh launched a special operation and arrested the accused. CP Bhullar said as per information, the drug was bought from a person in Imphal.    

CP Bhullar said further investigations are underway to check the backward and forward linkages and expose the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers and their buyers. He said that efforts are being made to ascertain the total quantity of drugs purchased by the arrested accused so far.
