Traffic rules: Parents to face consequences as minors caught driving vehicles in Punjab

Chandigarh: Punjab Police has come into action to prevent road accidents caused by minor children driving in Punjab. From August 1, if a minor is caught while checking while driving a two- or four-wheeler, legal action will also be taken against his parents.

During this time, action will be taken by the police under Sections 199A and 199-B of the Motor Vehicle Act Amendment (2019). In such a case, if found guilty, there can be three years of imprisonment and a fine of $25,000. Orders have been issued in this regard by ADGP Traffic.

It has been made clear in the order issued by the police that if a minor child borrows a vehicle from someone, then action will also be taken against the owner of that vehicle. This rule will be strictly implemented by the police. Special camps are being organized by the police to make people aware.

This order has been issued to all the districts. At the same time, proper feedback is being taken from the field in this regard. Earlier, the police had issued orders to take action against those who stood in the sunroof after opening it. According to that rule, there are orders to seize the vehicle.

In Punjab, it has been seen in the recent past that parents give their minors vehicles to drive. Due to this, big accidents happen. One such accident came to light in Patiala at the beginning of this month.

When minors drove the car recklessly. During this, they hit many vehicles. Apart from this, a minor car driver also killed three people on Mohali Airport Road a few years ago.

In Punjab, the police have taken many steps in the recent past to prevent road accidents and save people’s lives. Last year, the Road Safety Force was formed. Which has now been deployed on the highway. Which immediately takes the injured in accidents to the hospital.

Similarly, the Farishte scheme has been made easier. The police will not question anyone who takes the accident victims to the hospital. Also, a decision has been taken to give Rs. 2000 under the Farishte Scheme to the helpers.
