A corruption case has been filed against Punjab Police SHO Arshpreet Kaur Grewal for allegedly accepting a bribe of 5 lakh rupees. Two Munshis and two other private individuals have also been implicated in the case.
Inspector Arshpreet Kaur, who gained recognition for her commendable actions during the Covid crisis and was praised by former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in a video call, is currently serving as the SHO at the Police Station Kot Ise Khan. She, along with two others, is facing charges under applicable legal provisions.
The two Munshis involved are Gurpreet Singh and Rajpal Singh, while a father and son duo has also been charged. This duo was reportedly apprehended with 3 kg of opium but were released after allegedly paying a bribe to Arshpreet Kaur and two other officers.
On October 1, police arrested Amarjit Singh, a local resident of Datewal Road, Kot Ise Khan, for possessing 2 kg of opium, leading to a formal case against him. However, Manpreet Singh, Amarjit’s brother, and his son Gurpreet Singh, who were found with 3 kg of opium, were let go after reaching an agreement with the involved parties. The father-son duo reportedly paid 5 lakh rupees to Arshpreet and her associates, allowing them to avoid legal repercussions.
According to the FIR, a total of 8 lakh rupees was demanded through two intermediaries, of which 5 lakh rupees was taken in cash, without any formal case being lodged against the father-son duo.
