Punjab PRTC to get 400 new buses: Preparations ongoing to regularize 3500 drivers-conductors

Chandigarh: In the coming time, people’s travel in government buses will be easy and safe. The government is preparing to add about 577 new buses to the PRTC fleet. Tenders have been issued for more than 400 buses.

It is expected that PRTC will get 200 buses in January 2025, while the remaining buses will be put on the roads by May. Apart from this, a strategy is being made to make the employees working on government contract permanent. Soon a proposal in this regard will be prepared and brought to the cabinet.

The government is currently engaged in strengthening the government bus service. Also, it is being improved on the lines of private buses. Talking about the present time, PRTC includes about 704 buses, which will now increase to 1100.

At the same time, bus service worth Rs 1.25 crore is provided to the people daily. PRTC has registered an income of more than Rs 263.39 crore in the year 2023-24 as compared to the year 2021-22. In the year 2022-23, the income has increased to Rs 870.48 crore.
