Punjab: Rising demand for electricity sparks concern, reaches 14126 MW, surging of 3000 MW from last year

Chandigarh : The increasing demand for electricity due to heat has made PSPCL worried. In the month of May itself, the demand for electricity has exceeded 14 thousand megawatts, which is three thousand megawatts more than last year.

On Monday, the maximum electricity demand has been recorded as 14 thousand 126 MW. Due to the operation of tube wells in the month of June, the demand for electricity increases to about four thousand megawatts and demand for electricity during the paddy season this year is estimated to reach 18 thousand megawatts.

At present, PSPCL has power management up to 16 thousand megawatts. If the demand for electricity continues to rise in the coming days, then meeting this demand will be matter of great concern for PSPCL.

It has to be mentioned that in the month of May in the year 2022, the maximum electricity demand was recorded as 10 thousand 630 MW, in 2023 it was recorded up to 11 thousand 918 MW. While 10 days before the end of the month of May this year, the demand for electricity has been recorded three thousand megawatts more than last year.

By six o’clock on Monday evening, about 89,000 complaints of power outage have been received from across Punjab, while on Sunday, the number of complaints had reached one lakh and 25 thousand.
