Punjab Weather Update: Heatwave alert issued as mercury soars, Bathinda hottest @ 44.5 degrees

The heat in Punjab is increasing day by day. Meanwhile, a yellow alert has also been issued regarding the heatwave in the state today. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in the state has increased by an average of 1.1 degrees Celsius and has been recorded 4.5 degrees above normal.

The highest temperature has been recorded in Bathinda at 44.5 degrees Celsius, which is the highest temperature so far this season. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a heatwave alert in the state, while there is also a possibility of rain in two districts adjoining Himachal Pradesh, Pathankot and Hoshiarpur.

Warnings have also been issued for rain, storm and strong winds here. There has been no rain activity in other districts of the state and the sky will remain clear. This has made the heatwave situation more severe.

The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave warning in many districts of Punjab until April 29 and a yellow alert in many parts of the state.

Heatwave alert has been issued for Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Moga, Ludhiana, SAS, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Fazilka, Faridkot, Barnala, Sangrur, Mansa, Bathinda and Muktsar on 26 April.

Heatwave warning issued for entire central Punjab and southern districts on 27-28 April. Out of the entire state, only Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Nawanshahr will be spared. Rest of Punjab will be in the grip of heat wave.

On 29 April, relief is expected in some districts Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, but heatwave is still expected to continue in Malwa.
