Heavy to moderate rain likely in Punjab today; Orange alert in three districts

Monsoon has started showing its impact in Punjab this year. The rainfall in the month of June has surpassed the records of the last several years. According to the Meteorological Department, till June 29, 26 percent more rainfall than normal has been recorded in the state. Today, on Monday, an alert has been issued for heavy to moderate rain in many districts of the state.

Data from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has shown that while there is usually 49.7 mm of rainfall till June 29, this time, 62.8 mm of rainfall has been recorded. According to the department, there is a possibility of rain in most parts of the state in the coming days as well.

According to the detailed data released by the Meteorological Department, till 5:30 pm on Sunday, this was the condition of rain in different districts – Amritsar recorded the highest 5 mm, Ludhiana 3 mm, Bathinda 2 mm, Hoshiarpur 1.5 mm, Pathankot and Fatehgarh Sahib 1 mm each, and Rupnagar 0.5 mm rainfall.

Due to this rain, the temperature of the state has seen a drop of 2.6 degrees Celsius. According to IMD, the temperature of the state is currently 4.6 degrees below normal. However, the mercury in Bathinda still remains above 40 degrees Celsius.

Possibility of rain in 14 districts of Punjab today

An orange alert has been issued regarding rain in Punjab today; it is limited to some districts. But a yellow alert has also been issued in most of the districts.

Orange alert – There is an orange alert in Rupnagar, Patiala and Sangrur. There is a possibility of rain up to 12 mm here.

Yellow alert – A yellow alert has been issued regarding rain in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Barnala and Mansa.
