Punjab Weather Update: Orange alert for heatwave issued, Bathinda hottest @ 47.5 degrees

Heat has been increasing continuously in Punjab for the last few days. An orange alert has been issued for a heat wave in the state on both Thursday and Friday. An increase of 0.2 degrees was also recorded late on Wednesday evening. The average maximum temperature in the state has been recorded 2.6 degrees Celsius above normal.

But there are chances of light rain from May 24, which may provide relief. According to the Meteorological Center Chandigarh, the mercury in Bathinda reached 47.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, which is the highest temperature of this season. The department has recorded severe heat wave in Bathinda and heat wave in Faridkot.

At the same time, 12 mm of rain was recorded in Rupnagar late in the evening. Along with this, strong winds and dust storms blew in most of the districts of the state late in the evening, after which a slight drop in temperature was seen.

Orange Alert: Heatwave alert is issued in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda and Mansa districts and its effect will be seen both day and night.
Yellow Alert: Heatwave alert issued in Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Barnala, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Mohali, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib.

Yellow alert has been issued in Himachal adjoining districts Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, and Mohali. Strong winds and thunderstorms have been warned here.

25 May

Strong winds and thunderstorms have been warned in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Mohali, Patiala, Nawanshahr, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Muktsar, Faridkot, Moga and Bathinda.
