Punjab youth taking ‘donkey route’ dies while crossing Germany border

Jalandhar : In a tragic incident, a resident of the town of Phillaur in Jalandhar lost his life while attempting to cross the border into Germany illegally.

A travel agency allegedly took lakhs of rupees from the family of the deceased, who hailed from Ganni village in Phillaur, promising to facilitate his journey to Germany. However, the man died en route, and the agency did not inform the family about his demise. It was only after some days that the family learned about his death.

Family paid more than 12 lakh to agents

The victim, identified as Mohinder Pal, was supposed to travel to Germany via Belarus by paying a sum of 12.32 lakh rupees to two individuals named Pankaj Kumar and Naresh Kumar, both travel agents from Jammu.

His companions informed about his death on phone

They had previously sent him to Russia and then to Belarus before arranging his illegal crossing into Germany. Unfortunately, Mohinder died on the way, but the agents did not notify the family. Instead, they kept assuring the family that he would soon reach Germany. However, his companions who were traveling with him informed the family about his death over the phone.

Agents are demanding 4 lakh to bring his body back

The family alleges that the travel agent demanded around four lakh rupees to bring Mohinder’s body back to India. They have filed a complaint with the police, and the investigation is underway. The family has also appealed to the government to assist in repatriating Mohinder’s body to India.
