The monsoon may arrive in Punjab within the next 3 days. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon has reached central Rajasthan and is also moving rapidly towards Himachal Pradesh. A yellow alert has been issued for rain in Punjab even today.
In the last 24 hours, the average maximum temperature in Punjab has increased by 0.6 degree Celsius, although the temperature still remains around normal. The highest temperature in the state was recorded at 40 degree Celsius in Bathinda.
Apart from this, the temperature in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Faridkot, and Jalandhar has also remained above 36 degrees Celsius. A slight increase in temperature can still be observed today. But after the next 24 hours, the temperature may again fall by 2 to 3 degrees.
According to the Meteorological Department, from June 1 to June 19, 2025, an average of 26.65 mm of rain has been received in Punjab, while normal rainfall during this period is considered to be 45 to 50 mm. That is, this time, more than 40% rain deficiency has been recorded.
Many districts like Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Muktsar,and Mansa have received much less rainfall than normal, which has caused concern among farmers.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued weather warnings for various parts of Punjab till June 23:
June 20: Yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala.
June 21 to 22: Strong winds, lightning and heavy rains are likely in many districts, including Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Amritsar, Sangrur, Rupnagar, Mansa.
June 23: Warnings have been issued in most districts with the monsoon likely to remain active.
