Retired employee, son arrested while giving bribe in Ludhiana, Rs 1 lakh and mobile recovered

Ludhiana: A builder and his father in Ludhiana, Punjab have been caught red-handed while trying to bribe a senior police officer to frame him. The accused also recorded it on a hidden camera to blackmail the officer.

The incident took place at the office of Ramandeep Singh Bhullar of Special Branch and Zone 3. The police officer caught the father-son duo and handed them over to the Division Number 8 police station.

The accused have been identified as builder Akash Gupta and his father Vijay Gupta, who is a retired government employee. The police have recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash and secretly recorded videos from them.

Inspector Balwinder Kaur, SHO of Division Number 8 police, said Akash Gupta and Vijay Gupta had complained about alleged forgery by a tenant. The case was being investigated by ADCP Bhullar.They went to the ADCP’s office to find the update. While talking to the officer, Akash mentioned the word “payment”, which immediately aroused suspicion.

Inspector Balwinder Kaur said ADCP Ramandeep Bhullar asked him what payment he was talking about, as there was no requirement for payment. Sensing something fishy, ​​she ordered her staff to search for him.

When his phone was checked, police found that Akash was recording his conversation with the officer and also making videos of the staff while waiting to meet the ADCP.

Inspector Balwinder said the accused have been booked under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as well as Sections 308 (2) (extortion) and 61 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
