Sacrilege in Amritsar: Sacred Sikh Scriptures found in garbage vehicle, sparks protests

In Amritsar city’s Ranjit Avenue area, an incident has come to light where pages of Sri Gutka Sahib and other sacred scriptures were found in a garbage collection vehicle.

This incident has sparked deep resentment among Sikh organizations and the community. The driver of the vehicle reported that while collecting garbage, he noticed pages of sacred texts, after which he attempted to hand them over to Gurudwara Sri Guru Nanak Prakash Sahib in D-Block, Ranjit Avenue.

However, the gurudwara management refused to accept them, stating that no such items had reached them and that the CCTV cameras at the site were malfunctioning.

Upon receiving news of the incident, the All India Sikh Satkar Committee and other Sikh organizations protested outside the Ranjit Avenue police station, terming it a direct act of desecration of Guru’s sanctity.

The organizations warned the administration that if the culprits are not identified and strict action is not taken against them, protests will be held across the state. Sikh leaders Nihang Singh, Baba Paras Singh, and Mandeep Singh expressed strong reactions through the media, stating that this issue is not only about the faith of Sikhs but also concerns the dignity of the entire society.

They alleged that the pages of Gutka Sahib and other scriptures were deliberately thrown into household garbage, which is a complete insult to religious sentiments.

Investigation Underway

Confirming the incident, Ranjit Avenue police station’s SHO Robin Hans stated that they received information about the discovery of pages of Gutka Sahib, and the police have initiated an investigation. He assured that strict legal action will be taken against whoever is found guilty.
