Fraud alert: Rs 6.42 lakh withdrawn from woman’s account in Sangrur by hackers, funds transferred to multiple account

Sangrur: In Sangrur, hackers stole cash worth Rs 6 lakh 42 thousand on different days from the bank account of a widow of village Bald Kalan in Bhawanigarh. In this regard, the widow’s daughter has given a written complaint to the SSP and demanded strict action against the fraudsters.

Her mother has a savings account in the Bhawanigarh branch of a private bank, and an amount of around Rs 8 lakh 93 thousand was deposited in her account. On the evening of July 31, 2024, three messages came on her mobile phone, in which there was information about the transfer of Rs 1 lakh 42 thousand from her mother’s account to other accounts under three different transactions.

But this amount was not transferred by her to anyone’s account. Due to this, when he realized that he was being cheated, he immediately called a woman officer of the bank informed her about the incident and requested to freeze his account.

The bank officials told him that the remaining amount of Rs 7 lakh in his account had been deposited in FD, and now you need not be worry.

But on the night of August 1, the ground slipped from under his feet when, at around 8:15 pm, he again got a message on his mobile phone that someone had broken the bank FD of his mother’s account and transferred an amount of Rs 5 lakh to a bank account in Maharashtra.

On talking to the bank manager, Rajiv Singla, he said that the bank is not at fault in this. The bank manager said that this incident of fraud happened because a family member shared the bank account information with someone from his mobile phone. Under this, hackers have hacked the mobile phone of the said woman and, through the net banking system, have broken the FD from her account and transferred the amount to one of their accounts.
