Jalandhar: Demonstration was held by different unions in Jalandhar Municipal Corporation today. During this time, all work was stopped for 2 hours and people started raising slogans outside the Municipal Commissioner’s office.
Some union people also started protesting in the square outside the Municipal Corporation office. Reaching the spot, ACP got the dharna in the square lifted by assuring a meeting.
During this, the Principal Sanitary Supervisor Employees Union said that this strike has been organized for the recruitment of level four employees. He said that since the city has become very big sanitation employees are facing a lot of trouble in cleaning the city.
As per the supervisor, at least 5000 employees are needed to keep Jalandhar clean whereas there are only about 1500 employees. He said, “We have been demanding this for a long time, but our demands are being ignored. It has been said that we will hold a meeting today and if nothing comes out of the meeting, a protest will be held tomorrow also.”
