Seat Belt mandatory for passengers sitting at Rear Seats: Punjab Police

Chandigarh: In a recent order to ensure safety of all passengers sitting in a four-wheeler, Punjab Police has made it mandatory to wear seat belts for passengers sitting at the back seat in four-wheeler vehicles.

In order issued by Punjab Police it is said that “Any officer sitting in the back seat in the government vehicle / general public in his four-wheeler will also sit with the seat belt.”

Punjab Traffic police is celebrating National Road Safety Month from 15th January 2024 which will continue till 14th February 2024. It is being said in the order that for remaining days of National Road Safety Month, Education cell of Traffic police should educate and aware general public about wearing seat belt even at the back seat.

Motor Vehicles Act on wearing seat belt

Motor vehicles act was amended in year 2019. As per section 194(B)(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act   whoever drives a motor vehicle without wearing a safety belt or carries passengers not wearing seat belts shall be punishable with a fine of Rs 1,000.
