Chandigarh: Punjab cadre 1990 batch senior IAS officer Vijay Kumar Singh’s return to Punjab has sparked discussion and it is also being said that he may be given the post of Principal Secretary to Chief Minister.
It is being speculated that Punjab’s most senior official IAS Officer Vijay Kumar Singh can make return to Punjab. The news of his return in the state has sparked a discussion in the bureaucracy. Vijay Kumar Singh, Senior IAS Officer of 1990 batch is currently working as Secretary in the Defense Ministry and is looking after the Department of Ex-Servicemen. He can be appointed as the Principal Secretary of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The Punjab government had requested the center for his return to the state, which the central government has accepted. There are also speculations that the post of Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is lying vacant and he can be given charge of the post. Earlier, the post was held by IAS officer A Venu Prasad but following his retirement no appointment was made further.
As per reports, the cabinet committee formed for appointments has approved this decision on Tuesday. VK Singh, who has been on central deputation since 2017, is currently the most senior after Vini Mahajan. It should be noted that post of Principal secretary has been lying vacant, the office of Chief Secretary of Punjab is held by 1993 batch IAS officer Anurag Verma.
