Shambhu Border SC Hearing: Court gives time to Punjab & Haryana to propose names for committee, next hearing on Aug 12

New Delhi: The hearing was held in the Supreme Court today on the petition of Haryana Government regarding the opening of Shambhu border. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appeared in the court on behalf of the Haryana government and the names of experts were finalized and asked for time from the court to give details. He appealed to postpone the hearing and now the next hearing of this case will be on August 12. Till then the situation at the Shambhu border will remain intact which means the Shambhu Border is not opening yet.

While hearing the case, the Supreme Court asked the Punjab and Haryana governments to consider the court’s suggestions. Court insisted on finding solution as the closure of the border for long time is not in favor of any party. The Supreme Court said that Haryana and Punjab governments should consider the names of such people who can find a solution to the problem by talking to the farmers. Court further added that names of retired judges and lawyers can also be considered.

On behalf of Haryana, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that during the last hearing, the court had asked to give the name of an expert who could talk to the government and the agitating farmers. Both Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh assured that names will be suggested from both states to hold talks with farmers.
