Amritsar Temple Theft: Suspect strikes multiple times; locals warn of protest at police station if immediate action isn’t taken

Amritsar: The theft took place in Damuhi Shivala (temple) located in Judge Nagar, Amritsar. The thief took away money from small boxes inside the temple. The entire incident was captured on CCTV. The committee members say that the same person steals repeatedly in the temple, but the police do not take action. If no action is taken this time too, they will protest outside the police station.

Kishan Dev, the priest of Judge Nagar Shivala temple in Amritsar, said that when he opened the temple at five in the morning, he saw that the box kept in front of the idol of Lord Shankar was missing. Then the door of the Baglamukhi Mata temple was broken, and the necklace around her neck was missing. Money was missing from the other box kept in the temple. The thief came from the back door and broke the doors and stole the money from there.

Surinder Arora, a member of the Shivala committee, said that thefts had been taking place in the temple earlier as well. Every time, the same person steals. He complains to the police, but the police keep him in the lockup for a few days and then grant him bail. He has also handed over the photo and details of the thief to the police. He said that it is difficult to estimate the amount stolen from the temple’s donation boxes because the donation boxes are opened only after the month is over.

He said that the police adopt a lax attitude in this matter. This time, if the thief is not caught within three days, a protest will be held outside the police station. According to the police officer who reached the spot, information about the case has been received. He has taken CCTV footage and the thief’s photo. Action will be taken soon after investigating this matter.
