Tipper March in Jalandhar: Convoy to move from Haveli to Mansar Mukerian over overloading challans; Travelers advised to be cautious

Jalandhar, June 13: In a strong show of protest, the Doaba Tipper Union is carrying out a fury march today from Jalandhar Haveli to Mansar (Mukerian, District Hoshiarpur). Early this morning, around 100 to 150 tippers gathered near the Haveli to participate in the march.

The union alleges that the Punjab government is targeting transporters with unfair and contradictory policies. According to Union Leader Manjit Singh Saggu, government crushers overload their tippers and later issue challans for the same violations. He further stated that departments such as the police, excise, sales, and GST are being misused to harass tipper operators.

Union leaders claim that officials stop vehicles at multiple checkpoints, demand illegal payments, and issue hefty fines if drivers refuse to comply. They highlighted the double standards being followed by the government, emphasizing that while crusher slips show overloading, no action is taken against the crusher owners or government mining officials who enable the overloading.

The union is demanding that equal accountability be enforced — not just for tipper operators, but also for the crusher owners and corrupt officials. They said the current system unfairly targets small transporters while letting larger violators go unchecked.
