Toy train overturns in Chandigarh’s Elante Mall, 11-year-old dies

Chandigarh: In a tragic incident that took place in Chandigarh, a toy train overturned leaving an 11-year-old boy dead.

The incident took place at Chandigarh’s Elante Mall when a toy train overturned due to which an 11-year-old boy fell from it. The boy sustained head injuries and later succumbed to it during the treatment.

It is reported that the 11-year-old boy has been identified as Shahbaz, hailing from Nawanshahr. The body of the boy after autopsy was handed over to the parents. The last rites will be done in Nawanshahr.

He along with his parents was in Chandigarh last night for a family outing. The police have seized the toy train and registered a case against the operator.

Tragic Elante Mall incident

Jatinder Pal Singh, a resident of Nawanshahr, had come to Chandigarh on Saturday with his two children, wife and cousin Navdeep’s family. On Saturday night around 8 o’clock, both family members reached Elante Mall for sightseeing and shopping.

Seeing the toy train on the ground floor inside the mall, 11-year-old Shahbaz and Navdeep’s son started insisting on sitting in it, after which Jitinder Pal paid Rs 400 for the ride of both the children. Shahbaz and the other child sat in the last compartment of the train. During this time, suddenly the balance of the train got disturbed and the last compartment overturned. Shahbaz sustained injuries on head while his cousin escaped in the accident. Child was rushed to hospital but succumbed to the injuries.

Elante Mall expressed condolences

Nexus Elante Mall expressed their condolences in a statement, stating, “We were informed about the unfortunate incident involving one of the service providers working on our premises on the night of June 22, 2024. Our emergency response team rushed the victim to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, and the local police station was informed immediately. We are fully cooperating with the local authorities in this regard and deeply sympathize with the family.”
