Amritsar: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Thursday arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Arjan Singh, posted at the Anti-Human Trafficking Wing of Commissionerate Amritsar, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Disclosing this in this regard, a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the said accused has been arrested based on a complaint filed by Rohit, a resident of Mohalla Islamabad in Amritsar city.
He said that the complainant had approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged in his complaint that the said policeman has demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 in return for giving a report in favor of the complainant in a case related to sending him abroad and registering an FIR against the immigration agent.
The spokesperson further said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap during which the policeman was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. He said that a case has been registered in this regard at the Amritsar Range Police Station of the Vigilance Bureau under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused will be produced in court and further proceedings in this case are underway.
