Vigilance Bureau action: Cooperative inspector arrested while taking bribe in Amritsar

Amritsar: The Vigilance Bureau in Amritsar has caught Inspector Gurinder Singh taking bribe. The accused had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh for restoring the cooperative society. Gurinder Singh was posted as Secretary in the Multipurpose Cooperative Society of Bhura Kohna village.

The official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the accused has been arrested on the complaint of Varinder Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran district. The complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau and alleged in his complaint that the accused concerned had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh in lieu of restoring the cooperative society, which was dissolved due to misuse of government funds.

The complainant further said that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 from him in the name of meeting the Joint Registrar, Cooperative Society Jalandhar in this regard. After a preliminary investigation of the complaint, the team of Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and caught the accused inspector red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in the presence of two government witnesses.

He informed that in this regard a case has been registered against the said accused under the Anti-Corruption Act at Amritsar Range Police Station of Vigilance Bureau. The accused will be produced in the honourable court tomorrow and further investigation is going on in this regard.
