Wife of Late former MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, Karamjit quits Congress, Joins BJP in Delhi

New Delhi: Congress leader and wife of late former MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, Karamjit Kaur joined Bhartiya Janta Party. She joined the party in the presence of senior BJP leaders including Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and MP Sushil Kumar Rinku.

Apart from her, Former Secretary of AICC and Co-Incharge Himachal Pradesh Tejinder Pal Singh Bittu also joined the BJP. He tendered his resignation from the post and primary membership of the party today.

Karamjit Kaur joins BJP

The joining of Karamjit Kaur in Bhartiya Janta Party has come days after congress party announced candidates from Punjab. Congress Party in its first list gave ticket to Former MP Charanjit Singh Channi from the Jalandhar Lok Sabha Seat.

The move was opposed by the Chaudhary family as late former MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary who served the seat for straight nine years passed away last year during Bharat Jodo Yatra. Following his demise, by-polls were held in which his wife Karamjit Kaur was fielded. However Karamjit Kaur lost to AAP Candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku. Ironically, Both Karanjit and Rinku are BJP leaders now.

Congress preferred Channi over Chaudhary

Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat is a reserved constituency influenced heavily by Dalit politics. Taking feedback from the local leaders, Congress decided to field Charanjit Singh Channi from Jalandhar, seat which was stronghold of Chaudhary family. Unhappy with this, Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, Son of Karamjit Kaur and MLA from Phillaur resigned from the post of Congress Chief whip.

The wife of Late former MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, Karamjit Kaur has reached BJP headquarters. She is likely to join the saffron party today. MP Sushil Kumar Rinku and MLA Sheetal Angural have also reached BJP office.
