Chandigarh: Chandigarh Meteorological Center has issued Yellow Alert for 2 days and Orange Alert on May 18 and 19. According to the department, if the temperature continues to rise in the same way, then the orange alert can be changed to red alert.
The maximum temperature reached 41 degrees on Wednesday. The weather remained clear from morning, while the temperature started to rise in the afternoon.
Chandigarh Meteorological Center Director A. K. Singh says that in the situation of heat wave an alert has been issued for Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
The department has its own criteria for declaring heat wave. If the maximum temperature is 4.5 degrees higher than the normal temperature, then it is called heat wave condition.
