Jalandhar: In Edmonton, Canada, 48-year-old Sukhjeet Randhawa, alias Sunny, was shot and killed. The incident occurred at the Connect Liquor Store in the city’s central area.
According to police, a 22-year-old man entered the store and tried to leave without paying for liquor bottles. Sunny tried to stop him and closed the store door. At that point, the accused opened fire.
Died in hospital
Sukhjeet was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being shot, where he died during treatment. After the post-mortem, police have ruled the case a homicide.
22-year-old accused arrested
The Edmonton Police Murder Investigation Team has arrested 22-year-old Nicholas Butler-Chaves. The accused has been charged with second-degree murder. Police have stated that no other suspects are currently being sought in this case.
Community mourns, security concerns raised
Sukhjit’s death has caused grief and anger among the local South Asian community and businesses. People paid tribute by placing candles and flowers outside his shop.
Local businesses have called for increased security at retail stores. A funeral and memorial service will be held on August 12th in Sukhjit’s honor.
