New Delhi: The mortal remains of all 12 Indian nationals who lost their lives in the industrial accident at Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City have been repatriated to India, bringing closure to the process of returning the victims to their families.
According to the Indian Embassy in Doha, eight bodies were flown back to India on June 26, while the remaining four had been repatriated a day earlier on June 25. The embassy coordinated closely with Qatari authorities, local agencies and community organisations to facilitate the transportation of the deceased workers.

Deadly Explosion at Ras Laffan Facility
The victims were killed in a powerful explosion at the Barzan local gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of Qatar’s key energy hubs operated by QatarEnergy LNG.
The industrial accident claimed 13 lives, including 12 Indian nationals and one Pakistani citizen, while at least 66 people sustained injuries. The injured included workers from several countries, including India, Qatar, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.
The incident has emerged as one of the deadliest industrial accidents in Qatar in recent years and has renewed concerns over safety standards at large energy and industrial installations.
Embassy Coordinates Repatriation Efforts
Following the tragedy, the Indian Embassy in Doha worked with Qatari authorities to complete the identification of the victims and arrange the repatriation of their mortal remains.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the embassy expressed condolences to the bereaved families and thanked the Qatari government, community organisations and all agencies involved for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth return of the victims to India.
Support Extended to Injured Workers
The embassy said it continues to monitor the condition of the injured Indian nationals.
Indian Ambassador Vipul and other embassy officials visited Al Khor to meet injured workers undergoing treatment at local hospitals. Officials stated that all injured individuals have received medical care and necessary assistance, while also acknowledging the support provided by Qatari healthcare authorities and employer representatives during the emergency.
Probe Into Cause of Explosion Underway
Authorities in Qatar are continuing their investigation into the circumstances that led to the explosion at the Barzan gas facility.
Given the strategic importance of the Ras Laffan Industrial City, which is a major hub for Qatar’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and exports, the incident has attracted significant international attention.
Officials have not yet announced the exact cause of the explosion, and investigations remain ongoing.
Government Assures Assistance
The Indian government has assured continued support to the families of the deceased and the injured workers. The embassy said it remains in close coordination with Qatari authorities to provide any additional assistance required.
As the repatriation process concludes, the families of the victims are preparing to perform the final rites of their loved ones, marking the end of a tragic chapter for the affected families.
