New Delhi: The Tripura Students’ Forum in Delhi has approached the Delhi Police, seeking registration of an FIR and an urgent investigation into a viral Instagram video that allegedly shows a person from Tripura being subjected to sexual harassment, racial abuse and humiliation.
In its formal complaint, the forum raised concerns over the alleged use of racial slurs and derogatory language targeting people from Tripura. It urged the police to identify the person operating the Instagram account and investigate anyone else who may have been involved in creating or sharing the content.
The complaint alleges that the video included offensive terms such as “Chinki” and “Chiness” and language that insulted the identity and dignity of people from the northeastern state. The forum has called for appropriate legal action if the allegations are established during the investigation.
Forum Seeks Protection for Affected Person
Along with demanding an FIR, the forum has asked the police to ensure the safety and privacy of the person featured in the video. It has also sought confidential handling of the individual’s details to prevent further humiliation or harassment.
The complaint calls for the preservation of digital evidence, including the video’s metadata, account details and upload history. The forum has also urged authorities to take preventive steps against possible threats or further circulation of the material.
It has requested an acknowledgement of the complaint and updates on the action taken by the police.
Delhi Police Unit to Examine Viral Video
Delhi Police sources said the Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region (SPUNER) had written to the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit, requesting an investigation into the viral video. The IFSO unit is expected to examine the content as part of the inquiry.
The matter has also drawn attention from political leaders. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the alleged racial abuse and said the Delhi and Tripura police would take action against those responsible. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha also directed the state’s Director General of Police to coordinate with Delhi Police over the matter.
The allegations are subject to investigation. The identification of those involved and the circumstances surrounding the video will need to be established by the authorities.
