Jaipur: A fresh spell of heavy monsoon rain continued to lash Rajasthan on Saturday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue Orange and Yellow alerts for several parts of the state. The weather department has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the next two days, with the monsoon expected to remain active until July 27.
Mount Abu records highest rainfall, several districts affected
Heavy rainfall was recorded across multiple districts on Friday, with Mount Abu in Sirohi district receiving 195 mm (around 8 inches) of rain. Other major rainfall figures included Jawai (Pali) – 97 mm, Bapini (Jodhpur) – 81 mm, Karanpur (Sri Ganganagar) – 66 mm, Kalyanpur (Barmer) – 57 mm, Balotra – 56 mm, Jawaja (Ajmer) – 52 mm, Sarwar (Ajmer) – 50 mm, Garhbor (Rajsamand) – 47 mm, Desuri (Pali) – 38 mm, Kumbhalgarh – 28 mm, and Pali city – 27 mm.
In Jodhpur, torrential rain caused knee-deep waterlogging on several roads, disrupting traffic and daily life.
IMD forecasts more heavy rain till July 27
According to the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, the monsoon will remain particularly active over the Udaipur and Jodhpur divisions during the next two days. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places, while moderate to heavy showers are also likely over parts of Bikaner, Ajmer, Kota, Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions.
The IMD said rainfall activity is likely to weaken slightly from July 28.
Rain improves water storage but rainfall remains uneven
The recent spell has significantly improved Rajasthan’s water situation after a delayed monsoon onset and a prolonged dry spell. Since July 2, water has flowed into more than 40 dams that had previously dried up. Morel Dam in Dausa and Mansagar Dam in Tonk have reached full capacity following the latest rains.
However, rainfall distribution remains uneven across the state. Only Beawar, Bikaner, Didwana-Kuchaman, Phalodi and Salumbar have recorded above-normal rainfall this monsoon season.
Meanwhile, Dausa, Dungarpur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Karauli, Khairthal-Tijara, Pali, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi and Udaipur continue to receive below-normal rainfall, while 27 districts remain in the below-average rainfall category due to the delayed onset of the southwest monsoon and the prolonged dry spell.
