Chandigarh: Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, Rajinder Gupta, met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to discuss several key infrastructure issues concerning the state.
During the meeting, Gadkari informed that the Mumbai–Katra Expressway is already connected up to Khanauri in Punjab. Gupta, however, raised concerns over the delay in operationalising the Bhawanigarh and Malerkotla entry and exit points, even though the work to connect Sangrur and Malerkotla districts is nearing completion.
Responding to the concern, Gadkari assured Gupta that he would personally inspect the site along with him to ensure that the Malerkotla connectivity becomes functional by the end of March 2026. He added that the remaining work would be completed within the next three months thereafter.
Gupta said the completion of this road network would provide major relief to lakhs of citizens by significantly reducing travel time and transportation costs in the region.
