Ram Rahim 40-day Parole: Leaves for Sirsa ashram with Honeypreet

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim, who is serving a sentence for the sexual assault of a female follower in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak, has been granted a 40-day parole. Ram Rahim left Sunaria Jail for Sirsa at around 11:45 AM on Monday. Two vehicles had arrived to pick him up, carrying Honeypreet and some other people.

Serving sentence since 2017

Ram Rahim has been serving his sentence in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak since 2017 after being convicted in the sexual assault case of a female follower. He was last released from jail on a 40-day parole in August 2023. Ram Rahim spent that parole period at the Dera headquarters in Sirsa. This time too, he will spend his 40-day parole at the Sirsa Dera.

Ram Rahim released from jail three times in 2023

The process for parole and furlough is initiated in court after a prisoner has served a certain period of time and demonstrated good behavior. However, the parole period is not counted towards the sentence, while the furlough period is included in the sentence.

This is his 15th release from jail

In 2023, Ram Rahim was released three times: on 21-day furloughs in February and April, and on a 40-day parole in August. Since 2017, Ram Rahim has received parole or furlough 14 times. This is his 15th release from jail. When journalists questioned former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda about Ram Rahim’s parole, he said, “This is not my matter. This is a court decision. I cannot comment on this.” It is worth noting that questions have been raised repeatedly about Ram Rahim’s frequent paroles. However, the Haryana government maintains that it is a completely legal process. After the parole period is over, Ram Rahim will have to return to jail.
