Jalandhar: The postmortem is underway in the murder of Digvijay Singh alias Rana Balachauria during a kabaddi tournament in Mohali, Punjab. According to the postmortem report, the attackers shot him in the head from behind, and the bullet exited his mouth. Rana died before reaching the hospital.
Three attackers attacked
SSP Harmandeep Hans said in a press conference that three shooters were involved in the murder. A gang has claimed responsibility for the attack. The people involved are:
Lucky (a shooter from Pathiala)
Aditya Kapoor alias Makhan (a resident of Amritsar)
Karan Pathak (a resident of Amritsar)
The third shooter has been identified but cannot be released at this time.
Motive of murder: Control over Kabaddi
SSP Hans said that the motive of the murder was to gain control or dominance over the game of Kabaddi. This case has no connection with the Sidhu Moosewala murder angle. Rana Balachauria is linked to gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.
Murder sequence
The murder took place in Sohana late on Monday evening. Two or three assailants approached Rana in the guise of fans. They shot him on the pretext of taking a selfie. Rana was immediately taken to Fortis Hospital. His body was brought to Government Hospital Mohi this morning. After the postmortem, his last rites are expected to be held today. Rana had recently married a woman from Dehradun on December 6.
Another person also injured
Another youth, Jagpreet Singh (a resident of Ropar), was also shot during the incident. He ran to help Rana.
Gang responsibility and controversy
After the incident, notorious shooter Davinder Bambiha’s gang, now led by Armenia-based gangster Lucky Pathiala, claimed responsibility for the murder. The gang claims that Rana’s murder was linked to the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who had arranged accommodation for Moose Wala’s killers.
