Mumbai: Actress Raveena Tandon has said that some peaceful student movements were allegedly hijacked by “hooligans, political parties and people looking for opportunities to gain limelight.” She praised peaceful protests in Mizoram and said they set an example for others.
In a recent Instagram post, the Mohra actress expressed happiness that people’s voices were being heard and said she hoped the protests would lead to meaningful changes. She also connected student movements with earlier environmental and wildlife campaigns, saying people are becoming more aware of issues affecting future generations.
Raveena Praises Peaceful Student Movements
Sharing pictures on Instagram, Raveena wrote that she was “happy and proud” that voices were finally being heard. She highlighted the importance of protecting the planet and said future generations must understand the need to address issues concerning education, environment and society.
She praised the peaceful protests in Mizoram and other states, saying they demonstrated how movements can create an impact when they remain focused on their demands.
However, she alleged that in some places, peaceful student movements were diverted by outsiders, political groups and individuals seeking attention through social media.
Calls for Change in Education System
Raveena said that violence and damage to public property could derail genuine protests and that non-students involved in such incidents could harm the cause of peaceful demonstrators.
She expressed hope for positive reforms in the education system, including reducing corruption in government schools and ensuring easier access to education for all.
“Practising my Freedom Of Speech. Your opinion could be different, but I respect that too,” she wrote, adding the message, “Jab padhega India, Badhega India.”
Remarks Come Amid CJP-Led Student Protest Row
Raveena’s comments came amid the ongoing controversy surrounding student protests linked to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) movement. Hundreds of students in Mizoram had gathered during a CJP protest and sang “Give Me Some Sunshine” in a display of unity.
The youth-led demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi raised concerns over alleged examination paper leaks and irregularities in the testing system. Following weeks of protests, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down on July 25, intensifying the political debate around the issue.
