Khanna: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of pushing the state into the grip of drug abuse. She made the remarks during her visit to Fatehgarh Sahib, where she arrived to flag off the BJP’s ‘Drug-Free Punjab Yatra’ (Nasha-Mukt Punjab Yatra).
Gupta was welcomed by Punjab BJP State President Kewal Singh Dhillon and other party leaders upon her arrival.
She said the Aam Aadmi Party had been ousted from Delhi and claimed that Punjab would be next. Gupta alleged that the AAP had pushed Delhi into the “quagmire of drugs” and said that if the BJP comes to power in Punjab, it would take strict action against drug smugglers and send them to jail.
After paying obeisance at the Gurdwara Sahib, Gupta attended the BJP programme organised for the ‘Drug-Free Punjab Yatra’.
Rekha Gupta Calls For Collective Fight Against Drugs
Speaking to the media, Gupta recalled the martyrdom of the Chhote Sahibzade, the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh, and said Punjab’s history should inspire people to work towards making the state safe.
She described Punjab as the land of Gurus and martyrs and said people should draw inspiration from their sacrifices to collectively fight the drug problem.
Gupta emphasised that making Punjab drug-free requires participation from all sections of society and said the fight against drugs cannot be left to the government alone.
‘Protecting Youth From Drugs Is Society’s Responsibility’
The Delhi Chief Minister said protecting young people from drug abuse is a collective responsibility of society.
She said the government, administration and different sections of society must work together to prevent drug abuse and protect Punjab’s youth.
The BJP’s ‘Drug-Free Punjab Yatra’ was organised as part of the party’s campaign against drug abuse in the state, with Gupta scheduled to flag off the march from Fatehgarh Sahib.
