Big relief for people of Punjab-Himachal: Water level of Pong dam reduced

The water level of Maharana Pratap Lake of Pong Dam has been recorded at 1390.48 feet today. This has decreased by about 4 feet compared to the last two days. This reduction has come as a big relief for the people of Punjab and Himachal living on the banks of the Beas River.

Talking about the water coming into the Beas River, the water inflow into the lake is currently 34,160 cusecs. At the same time, 49,225 cusecs of water is being released from the dam into the Beas River. According to the dam engineers, if the rain stops in Punjab and Himachal, then in the coming days, the BBMB Board may decide to close the spillway gates of Pong Dam, which were opened for safety reasons.

If the spillway gates are closed, the conditions for the people living near the Beas River may improve to a great extent. People have been living in tension due to the fear of rising water, but the reduction in water level has certainly given them some comfort.

The Meteorological Department has also given indications of less rain for the next few days. With this, the locals are hopeful that the situation will improve further and the level of the Beas River will also be under control.

Currently, the administration and BBMB teams are continuously monitoring the situation so that people can be saved from any emergency situation.
