Rewari: 9 Overloaded Vehicles Impounded, ₹6.47 Lakh Fine Imposed

Rewari, Haryana: A joint team of the Chief Minister’s Flying Squad (Rewari) and the RTA Department conducted a special enforcement drive against overloaded vehicles in the district, impounding nine vehicles and imposing fines totalling ₹6.47 lakh.

The action was carried out during inspections on Gokalgarh Road and NH-48, where the team found vehicles carrying cargo beyond their prescribed carrying capacity. All nine vehicles were impounded and shifted to a designated parking area.

During the drive, officials also warned drivers against carrying cargo beyond the permissible capacity.

Five Overloaded Vehicles Caught on Gokalgarh Road

Led by Inspector Rajesh Kumar of the Chief Minister’s Flying Squad and DTSI Gurtej Singh of the RTA Department, the joint team first inspected vehicles on Gokalgarh Road.

Five vehicles were found carrying loads exceeding their prescribed capacity. The vehicles were impounded on the spot and moved to the designated parking area.

A total fine of ₹3.81 lakh was imposed on the five vehicles.

Four Vehicles Impounded on NH-48

After the inspection on Gokalgarh Road, the joint team conducted checks on NH-48.

Four more vehicles were found carrying loads beyond their prescribed capacity. These vehicles were also impounded and shifted to the designated parking area.

The team imposed a combined fine of ₹2.66 lakh on the four vehicles.

With the action at both locations, officials caught nine overloaded vehicles and imposed total fines of ₹6.47 lakh.

What Is an Overloaded Vehicle?

An overloaded vehicle is one that carries cargo or passengers beyond the maximum weight or carrying capacity permitted for that vehicle. The permissible limit depends on the vehicle’s specifications and the applicable transport rules.

Overloading can affect a vehicle’s braking, steering, stability and tyre performance. It can also increase stopping distances and put additional stress on critical vehicle components, creating safety risks for the driver as well as other road users.

When Do Authorities Check Overloaded Vehicles?

Transport and enforcement authorities conduct such checks as part of road-safety and transport-rule enforcement drives. Inspections can be carried out on major roads, highways and other routes used by commercial vehicles, particularly where officials need to verify compliance with prescribed weight limits.

During such operations, officials can inspect documents and vehicle conditions and, where required, check the vehicle’s weight to determine whether it is carrying cargo beyond the permitted limit.

In the Rewari operation, the joint team completed the required vehicle inspection and weighing procedures. A joint inspection report was prepared at the spot and signed by the concerned officials.

Drivers Warned Against Excess Loading

The joint team instructed drivers to ensure that cargo is loaded strictly according to the prescribed capacity.

Officials said overloaded vehicles not only compromise road safety but also place excessive strain on the vehicles themselves.

The enforcement action also caused a stir among operators of overloaded vehicles in the area.
