Rohtak, April 18: A dispute broke out between siblings at the mortuary located within PGIMS, Rohtak, over who would take custody of their father’s body. The sister insisted that she would take their father’s body to Tohana, while the sons maintained that they would take it to Kaithal. Due to this conflict between the two parties, the post-mortem examination of the body was delayed.
The Sons’ Right to Their Father’s Body
The deceased’s son, Amar, stated that they are three brothers and five sisters, all of whom are married. Yesterday, around 1:30 PM, his sister called to inform them that their father had passed away. When they arrived at the mortuary to claim the body, their sister, Meenakshi, was already present and was adamantly insisting on taking the body away with her.
“My Father Lived with Me for 20 Years; I Should Receive the Body”
Meenakshi, who traveled from Tohana to claim her father’s body, stated that her father had died in a train accident. She explained that it was the Railway Police themselves who had called her to inform her of the death and instructed her to come and collect the body. When she arrived to retrieve the body, her brothers and sisters were also present. She alleged that they had not come to claim the body out of genuine concern, but rather with the sole intention of securing the accident compensation money.
Meenakshi stated that her three brothers used to physically abuse her father; consequently, for nearly 20 years, her father lived alternately with her younger sister and with her. Whenever he visited their home, her brothers would assault him. Now, they intend to usurp the ₹5 lakh insurance claim resulting from their father’s death.
