Deoria: An accused in the murder of RSS worker Rameshwar Tiwari was arrested after a police encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district, with the accused suffering a gunshot injury to his leg, police said.
The arrested accused has been identified as Deepak Tiwari, a resident of Bheekham Chhapra. He was taken to a hospital for treatment after being injured during the police action.
Police encounter in Deoria
According to police, the encounter took place near Sutawar Mod in the Lar police station area during checking late Saturday night.
Police said a suspicious youth was spotted and officers attempted to stop him. The suspect allegedly tried to flee and opened fire at the police team. Police personnel then retaliated, during which the accused sustained a bullet injury to his leg.
The injured accused was taken to Lar Community Health Centre and later referred to Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College in Deoria for treatment.

Rameshwar Tiwari, a 50-year-old RSS functionary, was allegedly beaten to death on October 1 following a dispute over a road breaker outside his house in Bheekham Chhapra village.
A case was registered against several named and unidentified accused in connection with the murder. Four police personnel, including the Lar police station in-charge, were also suspended following the incident.
Police said Deepak Tiwari is one of the named accused in the murder case.
Investigation continues
Following the encounter, senior police officials, including Deoria Superintendent of Police Abhijeet R Shankar, reached the spot and reviewed the situation. Police are continuing the investigation and efforts to trace other accused in the case.
