Our country currently requires new paradigms and research in higher education. Students need to be prepared for nation-building. This requires dedicated teachers and ideal educational administration. Punjab is also poised to fully meet these standards. In this era, the educational landscape in our country and states has rapidly changed. Government-run higher education institutions have been replaced by private institutions. Due to significant investment in modern education, these institutions are operating very successfully. Whether in Bengaluru or Lovely Professional University (LPU) near Phagwara, or Chitkara University in Patiala, these institutions have earned considerable renown in this direction. Lovely Professional University has 34,000-35,000 students, living in ten hostels. Among the country’s higher education institutions, ITI institutions are globally recognized. However, among private universities, these higher education institutions in Punjab also enjoy a respectable status. Recently, incidents occurred at LPU and Chitkara University that shocked everyone from parents to education experts and the administration. First, there was a major uproar at Chitkara University over the alleged rape of a female student. Then, rumors of the alleged rape and suicide of a female student at LPU also spread rapidly. This created a situation of widespread unrest. Students protested, vandalized buildings, and blocked national highways. Things came to a head when outside anti-social elements joined them in entering the university campus and causing extensive damage by vandalizing it. Because LPU is located on the Amritsar-Delhi highway, traffic jams caused significant inconvenience to commuters. As a precaution, Chitkara University and LPU have been closed for a few days. Examinations at LPU were postponed and a ten-day holiday was declared. This is a matter of deep sorrow for those involved in education. Universities should have an atmosphere akin to Saraswati Puja. Especially on co-educational campuses, higher standards of decency should be adopted. The rumors and alleged fake videos that circulated at LPU alleged the rape of a female student. However, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed and an investigation is underway. The cooperation displayed by the students of Lovely Professional University after the sudden outburst was commendable. Whenever such a demonstration occurs, street-level anti-social elements infiltrate it. A similar incident occurred at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Walkietalkies and weapons were recovered from these anti-social elements who entered LPU. This is a matter of grave concern. These higher educational institutions are meant for education and renaissance, not as havens for hooligans or playgrounds for politics. The concern is that in this era of Genji, some antisocial elements and shrewd political players try to exploit the slightest student outburst to further their own interests. These elements must be purged from educational institutions. This responsibility lies as much with the administration as it does with education administrators and teachers. In a country that has a great educational system of celibacy and gurukul, educational institutions should not become a haven for antisocial elements and political players. The way the students at LPU helped the administration find these antisocial elements is commendable.
