Kyiv: Dozens were injured in a large-scale Russian overnight assault on critical infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine, killing at least 29 people. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appealed to the United States to pay attention to the Moscow’s actions and increase support for his countries air defences.
Zelenskyy posted on X on Tuesday, saying Russia carried out 289 drone attacks, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles, mainly targeting energy infrastructure, during the overnight assault.

The attacks took place in Odesa, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Chernivtsi, Chernihiv and Rivne. There have been emergency and unplanned power cuts across several cities and communities.
Kharkiv Hospital Struck, Leaving 73 Injured
Zelenskyy said a city clinic hospital was hit directly by the Russian forces, leaving 73 people injured. The attack also caused damage to the cardiology unit.
Rescue efforts are also underway in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region after 29 people died and five more were injured. Several people are yet to be rescued from the rubble.
“Rescue efforts are ongoing as much as possible as we’re facing a threat of double tapping by the Russians. It always happens so terribly,” Zelenskyy said. He extended his condolences to those who lost loved ones.
Zelenskyy said there was a threat to missile and drone attacks.
Zelenskyy Appeals to US for More Air Defence Support
Zelenskyy said the attacks came on the day of the US congressional elections and appealed to Washington to not ignore “this sign from Moscow”.
“The Russians think you (the Americans) won’t notice this sign from them but we must notice this terror.”
He added that it was important the US continued to provide support to keep the skies safe over Ukraine. Without strong air defence support, Russia will not stop their missile attacks. He also called for efforts to be made to create peace through a truthful and trustworthy process.
US Plotting Talks Between Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi
This comes as the United States are making renewed attempts to bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced on Monday that Washington will mediate talks between Ukraine and Russia at working level in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11 as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to bring about a peace deal.
The talks will centre around security arrangements after the war, reducing tensions, humanitarian issues and moving forward with the peace deal, Witkoff said in a post on X.
“The United States will mediate working-level talks between Ukraine and Russia on November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi. This advances President Trump’s mission to end the war.”
He added that US negotiators will also meet with France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the European Union and NATO in Brussels later this week.
The talks are expected to centre around security assurances, post-war security for Europe and economic opportunities to help rebuild Ukraine.
“We intend to build on our successes from Kyiv, Oslo and St. Petersburg to hopefully achieve a long-term, comprehensive peace deal,” said Witkoff.
