Mumbai: Bollywood actor Salman Khan compared his television journey with legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan as he recalled how the show ‘Dus Ka Dum’ became a turning point in his career.
Speaking during the ‘Weekend Ka Vaar’ episode of ‘Bigg Boss 20’, Salman revealed that he was going through a challenging phase in his life when he was offered ‘Dus Ka Dum’ and was initially reluctant to take up the show. However, his father and acclaimed writer Salim Khan convinced him to do it.
Salman Khan recalls ‘Dus Ka Dum’ turning point
Drawing parallels between his career and that of Amitabh Bachchan, Salman pointed out how ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC) helped audiences see a new side of Big B and gave his career a fresh boost when he needed it.
Speaking during the episode, Salman said the same thing happened with Amitabh Bachchan when he hosted KBC. He recalled that after appearing on ‘Dus Ka Dum’, audiences began associating him strongly with the television show.
Salman said he hosted two seasons of ‘Dus Ka Dum’ and has since been hosting ‘Bigg Boss’, adding that his public image changed significantly after appearing on television.
Salman says father convinced him to do the show
Salman also shared how ‘Dus Ka Dum’ almost did not happen for him.
He recalled that he was initially hesitant because there was considerable negative coverage about him in newspapers and on television channels. He said he discussed the situation with his father and sought his advice.
According to Salman, the show changed the way audiences viewed him. He said people began seeing him as a person rather than only as an actor.
He recalled that audiences moved beyond his popular films, including ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ and ‘Karan Arjun’, and connected with him through ‘Dus Ka Dum’.
Ever since ‘Dus Ka Dum’, Salman has hosted ‘Bigg Boss’ for 17 seasons.
