Sangrur (Punjab): A shocking murder case has emerged from Sangrur district, where a woman allegedly conspired with her lover to kill her husband and initially portray the death as a suicide.
The victim was even cremated before suspicions raised by family members and villagers led to a police investigation that uncovered the alleged murder plot.
Suspicion Arose After Cremation, Phone Call Exposed Plot
According to the victim’s family, the accused believed they had successfully concealed the crime and planned to spend their lives together.
However, discussions in the village regarding marks on the victim’s neck and body during the cremation raised suspicions of foul play.
The situation took a dramatic turn when the wife allegedly called her lover to warn him to remain cautious. The conversation was reportedly overheard by her mother-in-law, who immediately alerted the police.
During interrogation, police claim the entire sequence of events, including the alleged extramarital relationship and murder conspiracy, came to light.
Affair Allegedly Led to Murder Conspiracy
The victim’s mother, Surjit Kaur, told police that her son Jagtar Singh, a resident of Meemsa village in Dhuri, married Manpreet Kaur in 2015.
According to her statement, Manpreet’s relative, Sukhbir Singh, frequently visited the family home and eventually developed an alleged relationship with her. When Jagtar learned about the affair, he reportedly confronted both individuals and slapped his wife, leading to tensions between them.
Surjit Kaur alleged that after the confrontation, Manpreet and Sukhbir decided to eliminate Jagtar and enlisted a third person, Yaseen Mohammad alias Jassi, in the plan.
Victim Lured to Isolated Location and Killed
According to the family’s complaint, on May 8, 2026, Jagtar dropped his daughter home from school and later left for his fields on his motorcycle.
The family alleges that Manpreet informed Sukhbir of Jagtar’s movements. Sukhbir then called Jagtar and invited him to a secluded pig farm in Meemsa village under the pretext of resolving their differences.
Police allege that when Jagtar arrived at the location, Sukhbir and Yaseen were already waiting. The two allegedly attacked him and strangled him to death before abandoning the body inside the deserted farm and fleeing the scene.
Body Found After Search, Injury Marks Raised Questions
When Jagtar failed to return home, his mother contacted his friends, who eventually discovered his body inside the abandoned pig farm.
The body was brought home and examined by a local doctor, who confirmed that he had died.
The following morning, while preparing the body for cremation, relatives noticed deep blue marks around Jagtar’s neck and other injuries on his body. Suspecting foul play, the family took the body to Civil Hospital, Dhuri, for a post-mortem examination.
According to the family, the post-mortem reportedly noted ligature marks on the neck. However, after initial statements were recorded, the body was handed over to the family and the cremation was carried out in the village cremation ground.
Police Investigation Continues
Following the subsequent developments and interrogation of the accused, police have arrested the woman, her alleged lover and another accomplice. Further investigation into the case is underway.
The allegations are based on the police investigation and statements made by the victim’s family. The accused will have the opportunity to present their defence during legal proceedings.
