Sanitation and sewerage workers in Bathinda are on strike today. This strike is being held in protest against the lathi-charge by the police on sanitation workers in Barnala. The workers have demanded that the Punjab government dismiss the guilty police officers.
Sanitation Workers’ Union leaders Manoj Kumar and Ravi Kumar stated that their colleagues were staging a peaceful protest in Barnala regarding their demands. These demands included the regularization of contractual employees and the payment of outstanding Dearness Allowance (DA) installments.
Demand for Immediate Dismissal of Officers
According to the leaders, Punjab Police officers lathi-charged the protesters, leaving several workers injured. Strongly condemning the incident, the union has demanded that the Punjab government immediately dismiss the officers responsible for the lathi-charge.
Piles of Garbage on Markets and Roads
Due to the strike, piles of garbage are visible across various markets and roads in Bathinda city, disrupting normal public life. The workers have warned that their protest will continue until their demands are met and action is taken against the guilty officers.
