Karnal: Panic gripped the area near Guru Brahmanand Chowk in Sector 6 of Karnal on Wednesday after smoke suddenly started rising from a private school bus carrying around 30 children. The quick response of the driver ensured that all the children were safely evacuated before the bus caught fire.
The bus, belonging to RPS School, was dropping students at their homes when the incident occurred.
Tyre Burst Triggers Smoke and Fire
According to reports, the bus had reached Guru Brahmanand Chowk when one of its front tyres suddenly burst. Shortly after the tyre burst, thick smoke began to rise from the vehicle, creating panic among the children on board.
Realising the seriousness of the situation, the driver immediately pulled the bus to the side of the road and began evacuating the children.
Driver’s Quick Action Prevents Major Tragedy
Bus driver Satish Kumar said that he immediately stopped the bus after noticing smoke and ensured that all the children got down safely.
Soon after the evacuation, the bus caught fire. However, the driver and the conductor managed to bring the flames under control using the fire extinguishers available on the bus.
Their prompt action prevented the situation from turning into a major accident.
Police Begin Investigation
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and started investigating the matter.
According to the police, the tyre burst is believed to have caused a short circuit in the bus, which led to the smoke and subsequent fire.
Officials confirmed that all the children were evacuated in time and no injuries were reported. Later, another bus was arranged and the students were safely dropped off at their homes.
