The government has also issued an official notification regarding this. Punjab Cabinet Minister and Aam Aadmi Party state president Aman Arora informed during a press conference in Chandigarh that on Thursday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party supremo Arvind Kejriwal will jointly name this road.

This was a long standing demand of the Kamboj community

Aman Arora said that Shaheed Udham Singh has made a significant contribution to the freedom of the country. The whole country is indebted to his sacrifice, which can never be repaid. Udham Singh was born in Sunam.

In such a scenario, it was a long-standing demand of the Kamboj community that his martyrdom day should be declared a holiday not only in Sunam but all over Punjab because several camps and functions are organised across the state on that day.

This demand was put forward by Aman Arora before Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party supremo Arvind Kejriwal, which has been approved. The government has agreed to this and implemented the decision.

CM and Kejriwal will honour on July 31

Therefore, at present, a notification has been issued to rename Bhawanigarh, Sunam, Bhikhi and Kot Shamir Road on Shaheed Udham Singh. The formal naming of this road will be done on July 31 by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the party supremo.

Arora said that a proposal has been sent to the central government to name the road from Patiala to Bhawanigarh on Shaheed Udham Singh. A case has been prepared in this regard and sent to the center and the state government is expecting action soon.

MLA Goldy and VC Commissioner Board Chairman Manjit Singh said that this demand was pending for a long time. Martyrs do not belong to only one person or community, they belong to the entire nation
