New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday condoled the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, brother of Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and paid tribute to his contribution to society.
In a message posted on X, PM Modi expressed his condolences to the Royal family and the people of Dubai and said Sheikh Ahmed’s efforts to serve society would be remembered.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. His efforts to serve society will be cherished by generations to come. I convey heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Dubai. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Modi said.
Dubai Declares 10-Day Official Mourning
Earlier on Monday, the Court of Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the age of 76.
The Government of Dubai Media Office said a 10-day period of official mourning had been declared in Dubai, with flags to be flown at half-mast during the mourning period.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also paid a personal tribute to his brother following his death.
Sheikh Ahmed’s Public and Sporting Contributions
Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was the fourth and youngest son of former Dubai ruler Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
He served as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security, Group Chairman of A.R.M. Holding and President of Al Wasl Sports Club.
After graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Sheikh Ahmed joined the Central Military Base in Dubai and later became its Commander in Chief, according to the Al Wasl Sports Club website.
In the early 1990s, he established the Jebel Ali racecourse to promote horse racing in the UAE.
Sheikh Ahmed had also served as president of Al Wasl Sports Club for six decades.
