The Shimla Police have taken significant action as part of their ongoing campaign against illicit liquor. The police team from the Deha Police Station recovered a large quantity of illicit liquor and beer from the Deha area within the Chaupal subdivision. On May 8, 2026, the Deha Police Station team was out on patrol duty.
During this time, the police received a confidential tip-off that a Bolero Camper vehicle, traveling from Giripul towards Balag, was transporting a large quantity of illicit liquor. Acting on this information, the police team set up a checkpoint (naka) near Balag Nala.
When the Bolero Camper vehicle arrived at the spot, the police stopped it and questioned the driver. The driver identified himself as Sohan Singh, son of the late Lagnu Ram, a resident of Village Jeha, Post Office Mundu, Tehsil Theog, District Shimla.
Total of 30 Cartons Recovered During Search
Upon searching the vehicle, a total of 30 cartons were discovered inside. These included 13 cartons of the English liquor brand ‘Royal Stag’, 6 cartons of the country liquor brand ‘Nati’, 8 cartons of ‘Kingfisher’ beer, and 3 cartons of ‘Thunderbolt’ beer. Each carton contained 12 bottles, all of which bore the inscription “For Sale in Himachal Pradesh Only.”
No Valid Permit or License Produced
The driver, Sohan Singh, was unable to produce any valid permit or license authorizing the storage and transportation of the liquor and beer. Consequently, a case has been registered against him at the Deha Police Station under Section 39(1)(a) of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act. Further legal action against the accused is being initiated in accordance with the law.
